Boot log for 2.4.19 (spello) Comments: This is the bootlog for the new Libranet 2.7 Debian installation. I've not edited the kernel configuration at all for this distribution, as everything is working fine. The exception is the cpia webcam, which is known not to work with the 2.4 19 kernel -- that's why I got the -ac4 patch for gubbio. This is such a minor matter that I'm not doing anything about it -- I can use the webcam on gubbio if I like, and I basically know it works fine. I'm of course also running VMware 3.2 on this installation, which shows up in the boot log. The Dell GX1 I'm running it on doesn't have support for USB keyboards in the kernel, but the keyboard I'm using has both PS/2 and USB cables. So, an unproblematic kernel, with some minor tweaking in the configuration files and some immensely powerful packages that people are building. I suppose people could have built packages for SuSE too, but the fact is that the packages I'm interested in are being built for Debian -- all the dv and video editing stuff seems to be Debian focused. Instructions Run source .mods and source .novell as root in /home/steen to load some additional modules and hook up to the Novell file server. I removed the graphical login (gdm), so startx to get into X. Copies of all the main configuration files should be kept in /vc/spello -- just in case you have to reinstall Libranet. So far it's looking great, and the partitions should leave room to grow. Spello has two 250GB drives, accessible only through Linux, like the other video drives. Note that you might want to put ext2 on them to be sure to avoid frame drops in capture; so far that doesn't seem to have been a problem. dmesg nn |
