Teenager jailed for bomb plot essay sues school

A Canadian teenager is suing his school after being jailed for reading a fictional essay to classmates about a bullied pupil's bomb plot.

The 16-year-old was also expelled after reading his story aloud at Tagwi Secondary High School in Cornwall, Ontario. He is on bail charged with making death threats.

The teenager and his 14-year-old brother are suing school officials for failing to protect them from alleged bullying and denying freedom of expression. Lawyer Clayton Ruby says his clients are claiming 600,000 Canadian dollars (about £270,000).

After he read his story, entitled Twisted, rumours swept the school that he actually had bombs and a hit list.

School officials have refused to comment on the lawsuit.
