Eliminate the buzzing sound from the screen

The buzzing occurs because the backlight PCB is on too tight to the LCD casing, and the screws holding it in have to be loosened slightly. Even a quarter turn or so will completely eliminate the buzzing. If you have a pocketknife and a sharp philips screwdriver, you can fix the problem yourself.  Here's how to do it:

  1. Using a thin pocketknife, carefully pry off the grey circle stickers located on the bottom of the laptop's screen. Store these sticky side up.
  2. Using the think pocketknife, carefully pry off the two grey soft bumpers from the top of the screen. Store these sticky side up for later.
  3. Using the philips screwdriver, carefully remove all six screws from around the perimeter of the screen.
  4. Gently lift up the screen bezel from the upper corners until it "pops" out up there. Do not use excessive force, and only lift it up a cm for now.
  5. Carefully alternate between pulling out the top and bottom CORNERS of the bezel until the entire LOWER PART of the bezel pops off the rear screen cover. Note that the bezel WILL stay attached where the latches are. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE ENTIRE BEZEL. You will bend your bezel and then things will really suck for you.
  6. Below the actual LCD, you will see a bunch of screws. There are two pairs of stainless steel screws, screwed into stainless steel metal blocks. Take your screwdriver and tighten these fairly tightly (they will most likely be loose if your screen was buzzing badly).
  7. Next, look at the ribbon cable piece located in the center, below the screen. There are two screws holding this piece in, one on the left and one on the right. Take the screwdriver and gently loosen each of these screws a LITTLE BIT until the buzzing stops!!
  8. Now that the buzzing has stopped, check the tightness of the other screws. Make sure that they are snug.
  9. Snap the bezel back into the rear casing.
  10. Replace all screws.
  11. Replace all bumpers/stickers
  12. Enjoy your laptop
