UPS

The Tripp Lite SmartPro 700 Rack Mount UPS came with a CD with a Linux version of the PowerAlert UPS Monitoring and Control Software, Version 11.  The Readme file in the tarball gives simple installation instructions, but no operation instructions. The software site (below) shows SmartPro as a different download -- but I'll start by assuming the CD had the correct version.

Hardware

  • Model description (specs and warranty information)
    • DB9 serial port for network interface; SNMP-compatible

It looks like I made a mistake in getting the serial port version instead of the USB version (of the same model).

Software

  • PowerAlert UPS Monitoring and Control Software (looks fine, open sourced -- see guide below)
  • Network UPS Tools (NUT) (looks great -- available for SuSE and Debian)
    • The "tripplite" driver is listed for SmartUPS units -- it will likely drive my SmartPro too
  • Apcupsd a daemon for controlling APC UPSes (not my brand -- also available for SuSE and Debian)
